Video Gait Analysis for Runners

For runners, the constant joint pain and aching in the lower extremities can derail their training and lead to even more serious injuries. Our video gait analysis helps to prevent this. Runners take very safe precautions with their bodies and their routines to make sure that they are doing everything right in order to stay healthy. Despite this, there are still a lot of injuries that runners face, most of them without any explanation. Recently, studies have found that runners might be hurting themselves without them even knowing it.

Running Analysis

Doctors have found that it isn’t running that messes up your feet, but the way you run that can hurt you. According to The Wall Street Journal, most people run awkwardly, by taking too big a stride and landing unbalanced. This constant awkward pounding can cause shin splints, rolled ankles, and other nagging injuries. If not addressed, runners can suffer major injuries to the shins, ankles, and knees. These injuries can cause runners to miss significant time from work, and their sport. Most people don’t even know that their running biomechanics are off, and might not feel the effects of their awkward running until it’s too late. It is important to find out if the stride that the runner uses is a safe one for their body.

With Gait Analysis, runners are filmed running on a treadmill for about 20-30 minutes. The film identifies how you run and how you can improve your strides in order to maintain healthy joints.

The process takes just a few steps. The first step is to identify the flexibility and strength of the joints. This is done with a few exercises and stretches. Next, the athlete runs on the treadmill for 20 to 30 minutes. This run is performed in front of one or two cameras. The specialists at JAG-ONE Physical Therapy then give an initial diagnosis based on what they see. A more detailed report follows, with the entire process expected to take 1-2 hours.
